I am wondering how much fresh fruit and or veggies do your conures typically eat per day?

I am trying to figure out how much of what things i am supossed to be feeding my little guy. I share all my meals with him and he is a seed junkie who i am trying to reform so he eats a lot of seeds but i want to cut back his seed diet and give more healthy foods and am waiting on my order of pellet food to arrive so i can add that to the mix. I know the percentages of what their diet should be but i am more asking the volume like say 1/4 cup fresh fruit and veg would that be about normal? I also dont want to waste a ton of food by offering way too much either.

Also does anyone know if water chesnut is on the good or bad list for birds?

don't offer as much seed, its hard as nut really tries to ignore her pellets, but hunger or the fact she knows its not our meal time, will get her to nibble on some

i stopped offering fresh in her food bowl, its tied about the cage, in food balls/kebabs she may not eat it, but it does double as a chew toy

try not to over induldge your bird with just foods he will eat, they become uber fussy like my nut has become (my fault) and it becomes a bit of a struggle to get them to eat a balanced diet

I free feed pellets, and during the day I leave a bowl with fresh fruit and/or veggies. If I thought Puck wasn't eating any plant stuff, I'd take the pellets out for a few hours and see if that helps.

1/4 cup is a good place to start. I don't actually measure mine though. I kind of eyeball it. Some days 1/4 cup would be good, sometimes more, sometimes less. See how much your bird eats.

Also, it helps if your bird sees you eating stuff. Convinces them it's food and not poison. :-D

I think I'm giving less than 1/4 cup. I suppose it depends on how much your bird eats per day. My vet suggests 80% of the diet be pellets. Rowdy doesn't eat that much, compared to what my BC used to eat. Rowdy weighs more and is more active, but yet ate less.
