Ok so I'm taking pointers on the best ways to teach a bird to talk. Kiwi doesnt talk. I'm pretty sure she would learn easily but I dont know the best approach to teach her. Is there an easy way to do this, or is it mostly the same all around?

Antoinette would be the best person to talk to. Her Mishka is a brilliant talker, she even has a website about teaching your bird to talk. :)

Repetition - over and over... My words to Max are: hello - hello, Max - give me a kiss - whatcha doin' - Come here - I'm here - bye bye - nitenite - step up - go to your perch - do you wanna nut -

There are many more, but I'm tired after a busy 12 hour shift...

I'm just saying these words to Max, whenever they're appropriate.. Whether he learn any doesn't really bother me... He's a beautiful bird, and I love him to bits...

He has started mumbling many different sounds, and it'll be interesting if they turn into words...

Mine is a pretty good talker for a conure. She isn't always clear though. Sometimes she mutters in this little scratchy voice that is hard to understand. She can tell me several sentences in that voice and I hear only like 4 words of it. When she make the effort she can speak very clearly though.

Her first word was hello. She also says on a regular basis: hi, hey or hey hey (her contact call, but she says it other times, too), kiss, gimme, be right back? (when I'm leaving), you're a good girl I love you (sometimes she says it separately but usually together as one long sentence) oh Rowdy you're such a pretty girl, goodnight, what, what's up

She has said quite a few long sentences that were completely correct and appropriate to the moment as well only to never say them again. I know she has a huge vocabulary as far as understanding even if she doesn't say all these things every day. Because of that I think you should talk to and explain what you're doing to your birds throughout the day. They are capable of understanding words and phrases over time even if they don't say them to you. Rowdy has certainly given me glimmers into bird intelligence I may not have realized otherwise. I always knew they were smart, but now I know they are probably smarter than I had originally given them credit for.

We gave the owner of the pet store a cd that we recorded in our voices that repeated things like "pretty bird" "hello" "clifford" the dogs names, and other things that weren't situiation appropriate. She played it for him when she closed the pet store. In the pet store he said them all, but hasn't said most of them since he's been home. (I think its just his adjustment period)

Kiwi doesnt say anything. I mean she talks all day long in her "language" but words not so much. She understands me when I tell her give momma kisses because she turns and gives me kisses. When I say water she looks for the sink. It doesnt matter to me if she talks or not I'm still totally crazy about her. And could you imagine? If she did talk? I cried like a baby when she let me pet her! I dont know what I'd do if she said "Mommy". Probably go into hysterics or something. So basically its just repetition saying a few simple words over and over but at the same time telling her every little thing that I'm doing?
