I have a Sunday Conure named Baby and a Parakeet named Poptart.
My Conure is not a big treat girl. She does not eat them. She is new to the family so I am trying to teach her step up.

A "treat" can be anything that she enjoys eating. There must be something that you notice she really like? It can be a fruit, veggie, nut? If you haven't had her for long, you might wait for her to feel more comfortable with you first before training. By then you will know the treat you can use to train. They ALL have a "favorite" food that can be used as a treat for training.

PS: For some birds, the "treat" can be a special toy that she gets when she does what you want her to do. My Grey loves plastic bottle caps. She'll play with it a bit then she'll drop it. I can ask her to do something to get it back. It's always bound to drop again.... :)

Have you tried juice?
No I never thought to do that! Thank you. Baby is still a Baby. JUST 3 months old. She is my first venture into the parrots (I do have a parakeet but their personalities are very diffrent)

Pritti (Cherry-Head Conure) -- Fly in Peace my beautiful boy. Forever I'll love you.
Maybe a certain phrase or praise or other focused attention. I have found that combinations of "regular" things like kisses and "wow" have worked to function as a special kind of praise -- different than a single kiss or "good bird".

I've never had to use food as an incentive to step up. Verbal rewards have always worked for me.

Eg: Good boy/girl!! Yay!! Kisses! Muahmuahmuah! *smiles*

You are rushing them. Need to take it much slower. They will eventually warm up to you and training/treats will come much easier.

I agree, patience and praise are all that are really needed! As you get to know her more, you will figure out what motivates her best, but for "step up," just practice every day, and praise when she does it!

I've had good luck using "drama" as a reward, but that was after my guy was quite used to me. I'll praise him, sing, dance, generally try to be entertaining. Works for us. He's not a big treat eater either. He'll take the treats but does not seem wildly motivated by them.

I think that is the part that is hard for me because she already loves to cuddle.

Pretty bird! I would make put your finger out like she is going to step up and then make sure you keep saying it everytime she does, then praise her for it. You can also repeatedly make her step up by moving your fingers under chest over and keep saying it. This will help get her associated with the words.

Hold a treat in one hand and offer your index finger on the otherhand as a perch to get the treat. If they want it that bad, they will do it.

3 months is really young DNt train her yet to stepup instead train her to get use to objects everything and anything, just let her be next to it trust me if will help down the line I was just reading on another post that someone had there bird out and they where using a measuring tape and the bird freaked out and attacked them, your bird needs to see everything and anything trust me it's good, something's she can play with something just have it next to her let her step on it or let her see it's ok and its not going to hurt them,be smart don't let them bite something dangerous ,enjoy and everybird has a treat 3 months If still hand feeding that's there treat,it can be anything from you touching her, saying her name or even a nice kiss or just you acting like a nut trust me they have a treat you just have to find it.
