Today I was giving my star and gouldian finches some timothy hay in their cages. I decided to put some on top of my flight cages for my conure, lovebird and cockatiels to see if they'd like it. they all went to it and started picking it up, carrying it around like it was some new found possession. Since I've just gotten my conure, I am always trying to add something new every few days to keep Chili occupied.

I also wanted to get an opinion on a Kaytee Fiesta Max.It's meant for larger birds such as African Gray, etc... It came with a cage I had purchased from Pet Smart. It has all kinds of walnuts, acorns, peanuts, dried peppers, carrots, etc. I gave it to my conure, and lovebird and they both had a great time with it, picking out what they wanted to try and eat. I just wanted to know if anyone is familiar with the brand and the quality of this food, or is it not good for them as a TREAT.:D

The nuts are probably a little to fattening for all the time eating, but as a snack would probably be great! The veggies in it seems really good for them, some say that conures aren't supposed to eat peppers, but it seems they come in every bag of food I buy, my conure doesn't seem to like them ! He will throw them out first thing!

My babies LOVE peppers, both hot (dried type) and fresh green, yellow & orange peppers. This is the first I've heard that Conures should not eat peppers. Do you happen to have a reference on that info?

Peppers are extremely healthy for birds even conures; jalpenos, red bell peppers (which have higher vitamin content than any other bell pepper), hablineros, red chili peppers, chiltepe.

Parrot do not taste the same "heat" from hot peppers that we do. An average parrot has about 350 taste buds whereas we have about 9000.

Now dried peppers, fruits and veggies (packaged) are not good, dehydrating the stuff yourself is best so you know its naturally dehydrated not loaded with sugars, dyes and unhealthy stuff/junk they put in the product.. Kaytee I have seen never used the product though

Not a fan of Kaytee products in general... but then, I'm not a fan of most [food] products that come out of grocery stores and major chain pet shops.

I have one tiel that also *loves* the timothy hay! Don't know about the others, though! Haven't given any to my conure, yet...
