Looks like my conure has developed a weird behavior. Few weeks ago, I got him some large branches from a fallen tree and he loves chewing on it. The branches are his play stand on top of the cage.

Well, on Monday, I noticed he started to naw on his perch inside the cage. Yesterday, he succeed in cutting the perch completely in half. Both ends of that perch are now sharp enough to slay a vampire.

So, I just re-arranged the perchs and he began nawing on the next one. He doesn't really seem to care much about the branchs on top of the cage anymore. I suppose he just bored and finds chewing entertaining? I guess it's better than feather plucking.

sounds like he is just enjoying the branches you got him. While chewing things to toothpicks isn't very entertaining to watch, I bet he's having a ball. Just make sure the points don't get too sharp. Sidney loves to try to pull anything into his cage he can and demolish it.

He may also enjoy taking apart an old basket that has not been coated with anything. They are a really cheap toy. Also if you can find one a dried grass mat one would put on the floor. Do you give him foraging opportunities? If I were a parrot I would chew everything my guardian gave me except of course fingers.

Yes, I do hide grapes or other pieces of fruit in the branches - but he seems to prefer the branches unless he's hungry. I'll see if I can find more branches so he has a variety of shapes to chew on. :)
