Today I brought home my new 5 year old Brown Throated Conure. Thinking of naming him Rusty. We have a lot of training and taming to do. Untouchable at this point. He has taken some food by hand though. Seems to like green beans the most so far. Luckily I have Doodles to help train him, my very tame Senegal. He saw Doodles take a green bean so he took one too. He is doing better so far than I thought he would on his first day.

Hi Denise!

I'm glad he's learning from his new buddy, that will be helpful. Spend lots and lots of quiet time with him, just chatting away. Keep offering him food, eating is how a lot of animals bond with one another. Soon after creating a bond, you'll be able to start training him to step up.

Thanks. Yes I agree. I will take it slow but steady. I am at home 24/7, so a lot of time with my birdies. When I hold and play with Doodles he's very interested and leaves his perch to get closer. He was afraid of a millet sprig till he saw Doodles hold and eat a piece. He's not even used to toys and swings yet... but he'll come along I'm sure. I'm going to try to add a photo.

I keep giving updates on progress.
