Hey my roommate has a canary upstairs that we've just discovered has mites. My birds are downstairs at the other end of the house. What should I do?! I'm kind of having a panic attack. How do I know if they have them? How can we make sure we've gotten rid of all of them in the house?! Help!!

Sorry I haven't experienced this. I do know what not to advice though. Those mite protector hangings or sprays they sell at huge pet stores - potentially dangerous. I've read many illness and fatalities attributed to it.

You might want to get the right kind of mite killer (may require going to an avian vet) and treating all birds just in case. You can discuss it with the a-vet what treatment is required and for how long it's required for, and whether or not all birds in the home need to be treated.
