Any ways to get her to stop? Shes in her tent now and shes still chirping/squawking with her eyes closed like half way asleep.lol

It will stop over time if you don't encourage her. If you find it too annoying being in a apt then you have the wrong pet.

I would hazard a guess that being such a young baby she is calling for mummy, or, her surrogate. Thats why she stops or quietens when she is with you. She is obviously frightened being taken away from her "nest" as in the only other place shes known. I guess she keeps calling in the faint hope someone comes to help her.

I got my baby two weeks ago, but even he, at 10weeks old, was similarly calling out now and again. I gave him lots of one on one attention in the first week, but also got him into a routine. After food, play and hangout time, i put him in his cage and covered it with a large towel to block out the light. He still to this day makes a two minute loud protest then settles down to sleep. Do you cover her cage?

I would say get used to it. I'm sorry if I sound harsh, I am not trying to. But Conures are vocal pets. I have a green cheek as well and she talks all the time. She is loud and screams. Conures like to have conversations. I bet she would like it if you had little chats with her! :) And green cheeks are the "quietest" conure. (There really isn't such thing as a quiet one) good choice in conure for an apartment! Green cheeks cuteness makes up for any annoying noises they make! And congratulations! And she may quiet down after you have had her for a while. :),

First, congrats on your new baby! Conures are lovely and wonderful companions :)

Avery only ever screams for approximately 3 reasons - she's line of sight screaming, she's hungry, or she misses me and hasn't had enough time out with me to satisfy her. She'll chatter or whistle often, but not so much screaming.

Once you learn the types of screams you're dealing with, you'll learn the appropriate actions to take. Obviously I can't ignore Avery if she's hungry, but I can ignore her if she's line of sight screaming. I also can't neglect her if she needs more time with me, but I certainly won't reward her by taking her out of her cage while she's screaming. I wait until she's quiet for a few minutes, then walk up and reward her with a treat and my presence and take her out and chat with her and gush over how good she was for being quiet. My Ringneck is also a screamer and will scream based on certain behaviour cues from me. If I touch the door, interact with Avery first, or walk away he'll scream. It's something I'm working on, and screaming isn't always preventable with an animal that uses loud vocalizations to communicate with their flock. Hopefully as you build your relationship with your new conure you'll learn the little quirky things about her and how to react to them. :)

How long are you at work for? Covering her when you leave isn't really recommended in my opinion because it's basically sensory deprivation.

I've heard many conures who are a WHOLE lot noisier than my amazon lol. Conures seem to like to vocalize as loud as they can as often as they can. It takes a lot of work to get a parrot of any species trained for apartment living. They also need no-chew and potty training so they aren't messing up the apartment (we've been renters as long as we've had our bird, landlords appreciate quiet birds who don't crap on the carpet and chew up the baseboards and doors). A few helpful tips since you sound VERY new to parrots:

1. Don't cover her while your at work, unless you are working night shifts. She should have activities to do during the day, like toys to shred and foraging for treats to keep her occupied.

2. Get her on a schedule ASAP. Up at the same time every morning, to bed at the same time every night. Parrots NEED a solid 10 hours of sleep (and will still take naps in the day). They are lazy creatures of habit lol. But in all seriousness, it is VERY VERY VERY important for a bird to have a routine. She should know what time she is woke up, what time she is fed, what time you play with her, what time she spends alone while your at work, what time she gets her dinner, what time she plays with you after work and what time she goes to bed. It'll take a couple months, but I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a good routine for parrots in homes where they will be left during the day!

3. Ignore "bad" vocalizations and encourage "good" vocalizations. If you ignore her when she scream, but praise and reward her when she makes a cute noise or says a word (if she speaks) which one do you think she'll make more often? Be consistent. Again, it'll take a while, but she will get the picture that soft, cute noises get the attention and loud, ungodly squawking doesn't. Though, as a bird she will occasionally vocalize loudly and will likely flock call in the am and pm (short bursts of loud squawking).

4. Look up target training and start working with her ASAP. The better the bond you build early on, the easier it will be to train her as time passes. Target training is was and effective. I like "Michael Sahzin, The parrot wizard" personally, especially for beginners. He gives clear, concise and accurate instructions. He has lots of free videos on youtube. I suggest you look into him and other trainers too to see which one's style you connect with best so you can follow a program and get her trained to be an excellent companion bird.

Best of luck.

I had a feeling this would be the case:). NO ONE who cares enough to actually ask for advice would cover a bird all day while at work. Do you work the kind of night shifts where you don't get home until the crack of dawn or do you just work until later on at night? Are your night shifts consistent or do you sometimes work day shifts too? What kind of schedule are you trying to get her on (feeding times and time to interact)?

I will be picking up my 3 month old Dusky next week. I've never had a bird so have been asking a LOT of questions. What I was told is that when I bring him home I will bring him home in the small cage that he has been raised in and is used to. He will stay in that smaller cage for about 4 months while he gains coordination and acclimates to us and our home. Then I'll transfer him to a larger cage with more toys and perches in a few months. Since your baby is only 2 months old I wonder if he is overwhelmed by the new environment and larger cage??

If the little guy is still chirping when covered, is there a chance the cover is spooking him? Our first GCC would raise the rafters if we covered her cage at night, never got used to it!
