Yellow-sided Green Cheek Conure - Hatch Day 12/11/15 - "Tiki"
After realizing I posted this question on an older thread, I figured I should post it generally.

Is vinegar, dawn and water preferred over other cleaners for cages? The breeder (super reputable, I trust him completely) recommended that I use a 1:10 bleach solution to clean Tiki's cage and toys. I use poop-off regularly and the bleach solution twice a week. It doesn't seem to bother her, her cage has been cleaned with it all her little life.

I would NEVER use bleach on my cage. I use Dawn. If cleaning outside I use Gain Laundry Detergent something in it just makes poop vanish .

Any toys i can put in the dishwasher .........thats where they go

Personally I wouldn't use bleach unless it's for a periodic total cleaning outside where you can be certain it's thoroughly rinsed with the hose and dried completely in the sun. I always use a washcloth or paper towels damp with water and do a light wipe down first with that, then wipe with Poop Off (best stuff ever and non toxic) and then again wipe with a fresh washcloth with water only. Even though poop off is non toxic I still feel it should be thoroughly wiped off after cleaning.

Dawn would be a good soap to use as well, but you have to be absolutely sure you rinse all the soap off so that would probably be a good thing for periodic outside scrub downs.

I roll the cage out into the garage and first just hit everything with strong water spray from the hose and a little scrub from a small plastic libman grount brush I have. While all this has been going on the steam cleaner has been firing up and I go over all the cage and the perches with the hot steam. Never do I ever have to resort to soap or chemicals.

I just used a steam cleaner on Salty's cage for the first time today.
I picked up a Shark steamer, came with several, attachments , which made it a lot easier then poop off and scrubbing. Steam is a LOT cheaper then poop off. Salty got really passed off that I removed every thing from his cage.

Yup just make sure you use distilled water and do not over fill it. I would be lost without it. I only have to do a major cleaning once a month and because I can't take it out outside the steamer helps

I'm going to look into a steam cleaner. Have you ever used Doctors Foster and Smith online? I'm addicted. They sell Poop Off for literally 1/3 the price that I see it in pet stores (I just ordered a huge 32 oz bottle for $7.99 plus you can add other items like toys and food and what not and free shipping if order is over $49). Poop-Off Bird Poop Remover Spray & Anywhere Wipes :)

You might think i am nuts but , Gain Laundry detergent just a little in warm water and it will melt poop off. I use it on the deck cleaning the grate. I never have to scrub it

I use just plain vinegar and water every other week and my steamer alternate weeks. I replace paper daily and wipe the cages down with a damp cloth.

I hose down the cage with plain water from a pressure hose outside. For hard stains, I soak it in dawn/water 1/10 diluted in really hot water.
