Hi Ive been searching on the internet and have not found concrete information on this. *what is the best time for parrot babies to be weaned from parrot moms and when is that best time for future parrot parents to adopt baby parrots? I see there is a breeder near us with Green cheeked conure babies, the feather are not fully developed from pictures, so wondered when is the best time to adopt a baby parrot from breeder?.. Also, how to know if they are good breeders? Sorry for the darts thrown at you guys, haha but just wanted to know these things before we continue looking at this specific one. We wanted to be informed. Thanks :):green2:

Hi there! Welcome to the forums. Happy to have you here and very happy you are asking the important questions before you bring your little darling home rather than after. Different species wean at various ages but hand fed green cheek conures are usually weaned at about eight to ten weeks according to the individual birds. In general, a reputable breeder will answer all your questions and many will allow you to visit while your chick is growing. Most reputable breeders will not let a chick leave until it is fully weaned and eating on it's own. Avoid breeders that tell you if you finish hand feeding the chick yourself you can save a few bucks and build a stronger bond with your chick. Neither is true, you're likely to spend far more on vet bills for the little one when something goes wrong than you would have paid for a healthy fully weaned chick. You can build strong bonds just as easily after the chick is weaned. Best of luck, please keep us updated on your search for a new feathered addition.

Allee pretty much said it all. Great questions!

I don't have much knowledge regarding green cheeks but I can attest to what Allee is saying regarding the bonding. Rookie our brown headed parrot baby picked us out back on 6/25 @ 11 weeks old she was eating pellets, veggies & seeds at that time but still having 2 feedings a day. We've waited an additional 6 weeks since she was accepting 1 feeding a day for the past few weeks. She is now refusing all feedings @ 17 weeks old & is coming home tomorrow. We visit her several times a week & it is really obvious she recognizes us the minute we walk in. I don't feel like we've sacrificed anything having her wean totally at her own pace quite the opposite she's become very well socialized, healthy & I don't have to worry as much about her transition.

Good luck in your search :) Keep us posted!
