Nanday Conure
I have a 5-year-old Nanday Conure. I've had him about 3 months and we are good buddies, he's been easy to get along with as we have learned each others body actions, etc.
My dilemma is getting him into his new travel cage, he seems to freak out when I take him around it, I've tried just leaving it in the room in various places so he gets use to seeing it. No luck in trying to coax him into it with treats. I hate to force him, but I want him avian vet checked, should I force?

If you had to put the Parrot in the Travel Cage (emergency). You would have to 'make it happen.' So, if the date comes and you still working on it, you have to do what you have to do. So, make the appointment!

Now, it will help if you have a perch in the Travel Cage and that you have located it very close to the door.

Providing treats has been a long used and semi-successful over the years.

In truth, until getting into Travel Cage has some 'good times' attached to it. It will be pretty much a struggle every time.

We use the Travel Cage every weekend as we are out and about with our Amazon. Since, he likes riding in the SUV, (for whatever reason, the car does not have enough windows for him!). He as learned that he has to climb into the Travel Cage to be able to go for a ride.

Thanks for the advice, I'm making sure he is exposed to it daily and in different places within his view. He is making some progress in not being afraid and each day we work on it for a few minutes. I think I'm going to win this challenge and I intend to just take him outside a few times as a reward and get him use to going to fun places as well as the vet.

I toss a chile pepper in, and in goes the Rickeybird!
Fools him every time.
No sooner than the door shuts he's beside himself, but after a few minutes of indignation, he remembers about the chile.

Good for you for practice and desensitization... even if you have to force him in, he'll be less afraid and quicker to relax, I think.

... I feel bad here but I used a different approach.

In the dark I would transfer Porter from his day cage into the carrier, and let him sleep in there.
He'd be pissed in the morning but after a week or two he came to EXPECT to go in there at night and became pissed when I stopped doing it.

What kinda travel cage do you have?
