Cage Suggestions?

Wow, it's been a long time since I posted! I have been creeping, though. >.>

My current dilemma is the cage/living room situation. We have a sun conure and a green cheek in separate cages in our rather tiny living room. I would like advice or suggestions: I'm desperately wanting to update their enclosures and I would like to know any pros and cons of certain cage styles, brands, etc. I was considering a double cage, the kind that's long and rectangular with a divider in the middle, but my concern is that the divider won't be thick enough to keep beaks and toes out of contact. In addition to that, I worry that even if toes are safe, tail feathers may not be... Plus they seem to like having their own space- I don't want them to feel like they're too close. They get along most of the time but squabbles happen.
Then there are the double cages on top of each other. This doesn't appeal to me at all, mostly because I'd hate to make one of them be so low when they instinctively perch higher.

Their current setup is not bad, but the cages are both black (I think white cages would help in the tiny room) and I'd like ones with a flat top instead of domed for more toy hanging options. Or possibly play top? It's just getting to be time for an update.

All that to say, does anyone have some input on a good cage size for conures, either single or double, that isn't going to dominate the house?

Well, I live in a really small apartment and I got a new cage for Skitty over a year ago. It's a rather big one, considering he doesn't really spend much time in it, though he seems to love it cause he'll go in there completely on his own at times during the day even when he has the run of the house.

Have you tried Amazon? I got a powdercoat cage from there for just over $100. It's one of those cages you'd pay $400+ in a pet store. Its also incredibly easy to clean. I'm not sure what your size limit is, but if you got two of them and were able to put them side by side with an inch or two of space they'd be fine. As long as they aren't touching and the bars aren't wide enough for their heads to go through, you should be okay.

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on Amazon. Drs Foster and Smith had a nice one on sale for a while, but I couldn't save up the money fast enough. I really like the idea of a play top instead of a dome, but the nice thing about the cages they're in is how tall they are, so when they're inside I can interact with them at eye level. Do you find that Skittles hangs out on top a lot? There's a photo of the current setup (with the stand in the way...).

Yes, he does hang out on the playtop a lot- but he also goes in his cage a lot too, he'll go in and hang out in the corner. The only thing I don't like about his cage is that the tray for the playtop isn't see-through, so it blocks light from the top, but there is a lamp right near his cage and he seems to like having that little dark corner.

I had gotten him a playstand before I got him his new cage and it the perch setup is a like a giant "[" with the top bracket to hold a toy and the bottom bracket for the perch but he hangs out mostly on the top bracket.

Skittles seems to like high places though he has hung out on lower places too. I don't think its any sort of dominance issue, but rather a sight issue. I think they do prefer 'eye level' as well.
