Hi guys! Haven't posted in a while. So I adopted my 2 year old sun conure, Merri, about a month ago. She is warming up perfectly to me. We do everything together. However, lately she's been doing this weird hissing thing at me. Every time I go and scratch her head, she will enjoy it! She even asks for it in the form of bowing to me so I can give her a good scratch. But 5 mins into it she will lift her wings slightly and hiss and try and bite me every time I go and try and scratch her head. Sometimes she even lifts her tail up so high and put her head real low. Idk why I'm doing wrong. How do I deal with this behavior? Do I just not rub her head even when she asks for it?

Hormones? Is she starting to look at you as a mate rather than a parent? Is she expecting more than you are providing so like any woman she is throwing a hissy fit?

I knd of have to agree with tootsyd here just by the body language...the "face down A** up" is a sexual position...also you said she is 2 years old.......

Pet her and keep the bond but back off and ignore when the "display happens" it should go away in a bit.

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
yup and as is mandatory to be said, 10-12 hours of dark "night time" every night, without fail and avoid mushy warm foods for the time being

And yes face down a** up is very much begging for the diddly so halt all interaction whenever they do that

will probably last about a month fingers crossed
