Have a TGC coming soon

I have a breeder in CH IL still hand feeding and raising the little guy and I should have him in about 4-5 weeks. So excited to get him soon.
I've had a cockatiel a few years back, he lived a nice long life, so I'm not completely new to birds.
I am looking for any advice to raise this little guy correctly. I.e. Diet etc.
24" square cage with playtop is on order.

Awww how cute is this little fellow, congratulations. I guess with him being a baby just feel it out and move at his pace. He will be used to being hand fed so do that a couple of times a day and it will get him used to your hands and help build a strong bond, its how i bonded with my Parrot. From there you can work on getting him to step up ect. Try different types of toys, wood, plastic, see what he likes. Sounds like hes got a great cage. Get him a soft rope perch and some othed types, plenty of toys ect. Im not sure on the diet but get him straight on whats best for him and enjoy your new buddy x

I'll be sure to order so cool toys and have the cage setup for him prior to his arrival.

Aw he is so cute. I don’t know if this is much of advice but I have recently gotten a yellow sided greencheek conure named Echo from a friend, he is 4 1/2 months old and surprisingly talks a bit but I have figured out that using a seperate stand for training usually works very well for training commands such as “step up” and “step down”. You might need to test around and see what treats your new baby might like when you finally get him, Echo loves sunflower seeds as treats.

looks like a cute little friend. If possible I would move the cage into a corner of the room just to help him feel a little more secure and safe

Oh my goodness. That is one of the cutest baby birds I've ever seen!

When you get a young bird the most important thing is to allow him to feel safe in all environments - both in and out of the cage. It will help for him to spend some time adjusting to his cage environment, but also to talk to him and interact with him out of the cage. Since he is hand-reared this should be great for him, as well as for building your bond with him.

Some birds do have issues with mirrors. You just need to keep an eye on his or her behaviour around the mirror (any hormonal stuff, obsession, etc). My birds have never had any issues with them, but some birds do.

It is so exciting getting a new bird. Good luck with your new baby!

Thanks for advice. In prep for his arrival I'm going to avoid any issues and move the mirror.
I also didn't realize how many items we cook with that are non stick.
Rice cooker, muffinpans, cookie sheets, pans, waffle maker .....

He’s getting big fast and I shouldn’t have him home in about a week.
I understand from breeder that his fav foods are a mix of fruit blend pellets by ZuPreem and a safflower seed mix with no sunflower seed, fruits and vegetables with apples being his fav. Sounds like a great start.

That’s a very beautiful bird! As far as the mirror is concerned each bird is different. If your bird enjoys it then let him have it. My bird fiercely protects a mirror and becomes a real jerk about it. They can fall in love with a mirror and mate with it and get an infection, or they could just enjoy it in a well balanced way... or like my bird they could become territorial over the reflection. Only time will tell. Just take it away to reduce unwanted behavior.
