Tree Stands. To build or not to build?

So I'm thinking about making Emmett a tree stand. I have a willow tree in my back yard with a huge dead branch. I've read willow is safe.

Are tree stands a pain? I keep thinking they would be difficult to keep clean. Any suggestions for my building plan to help with this?

If you've made your own tree stand, I would love to hear about your process and what you would have done differently if anything. Pics or a link to your original post about your stand would be great too.

TIA!

By all means! Make your own if you have a saw, screws, washers, nuts and bolts...go for it! I made a stand that actually attached to the outside of a cage, I wish I would have taken a photo. I sold it several weeks ago.

I finally got out the chain saw and cut down the dead branches. I cut out the section I want to use and took it inside the house. Emmett took one look at it and few off his perch. I shan't be deterred. . . Hopefully, once it's mounted and has some toys on it, he'll not be so afraid of it.

Should I leave the bark on it or sand blast it?

I left the bark on mine. It so happens that each perch is not under another exept for one, so I don't have much poop to worry about.

Thanks! Cost me a pretty penny LOL.......Birds love it! I want to add another tree, but I am waiting for winter when the tree sap is recessed.....
