Hey guys! Ive been inspired by all the DIY threads ive been seeing....ssooooo I made Pumpkin a cargo net for his play stand.

I got Sisal rope from walmart that said 100% natural and then boiled it just in case. I couldnt find any large beads, so i had to tie knots, but i think it came out okay for a first attempt.

That is really, really nice! I may use real short pieces of PVC as rings instead of beads. Another option is hard wood rings from a hobby store. But even in a net your size, that is 12 rings!

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
That turned out really nice...

Yea i couldnt find any beads big enough in my town and i was not making a trip to Roswell today so i just used knots. PVC is a clever idea though! And yes this net is pretty small only about 1 1/2 feet by 1 1/2 feet... so you will need A LOT of beads for a good sized net.... :43:

Very nice! I bet Pumpkin will love it. I've heard conures are very active little birds, so that should keep him busy:)

Thanks everyone! I really like it. It looks like a playground now. I really hope these toys can keep him buisy. He's been destroying about one toy a day for a week now... just LOVES chewing. I know birds don't have teeth, but do they go through a teething phase?

Awesome Ann, I'm so jealous! I really want to make one too, but I have to find larger rope now that I have a big girl coming into the house. That looks like a lot of fun for Pumpkin. Tazzy is jealous over here :)

That's a brilliant cargo net, Ann, and I SO love the way you've secured it at the sides. Mine just hang, and of course they get misshapen over time and I have to keep tugging at them to make them straight. Well done! Pumpkin is a lucky little birdie! :)

I didn't use a thread but I know there is a thread somewhere. I just made up the knot I used because it was simple. One rope tied one time around the other rope....I doubt that makes sense...

I know if you google image DIY bird cargo net you can find the way most people seem to prefer to tie them. It looks like 2 "S" shapes linked together, but for me that was too complicated and took a lot of rope...
