My baby is now about 3 months old or so. He screams when he sees me. Now most would think he wants food. Well in the morning he screams LOUDLY when I come downstairs... Whether he's hungry or not. He doesn't scream at my boyfriend... Only me. I will then try to hand feed but he only takes it some of the time since he's weaning. Other times, like this evening, he screams at me when I talk to him, when he hears me, etc. Again, only to me and not my boyfriend. Anyone know what could be going on?!

I think he likes you and wants your attention :) Just a thought :) My little boy is almost a year old now and will sometimes start by chatting, then he turns to screaming he I don't talk to him enough! Other times I think he just wants me to open his cage so he can wander around :)

Sun Conure
When I get home my sun conure starts screaming. Not like an obnoxious scream it almost sounds like a babys cry. I can hear him from the time I put my key in the door. He just gets so excited. When I take him out of the cage sometimes he still screams. I pet him gently and talk softly and then he calms down. They just get so happy to see/hear you and want your immediate attention. He doesn't do that for my husband, he gets a little jealous about that.

He's screaming as loud as can be when I walk down stairs every morning and he sees me. He has just learned to fly too so now he also flies after me! i am afraid to give in to him when he screams this way. Funny thing is that he doesn't scream at my boyfriend at all. I realize he loves me and wants attention but I do not want to reinforce terribly loud screaming, I don't mind some screaming. But this is LOUD. I'm going out of town for 4 days and am hoping when I come home he's not as bad? Otherwise, what should I do to teach him not to do that? Ekkies aren't known for screaming so..I don't want to reinforce bad habits.

What I've learned from this forum, screaming like you describe seems to be diet related. Any screaming at this age I have ever encountered, which believe me was a lot and really taxing, was related to his diet. Make sure he is getting his fill when it comes to handfeeding and while weaning make sure he has food available at all times. When I brought my bird home, he regressed into needing more handfeedings than he was taking at the shop. Any and all of his LOUD squawks were always related to that. Not sure how much you are hand feeding at this time, but the shoot for goal from what I've learned is about 10% of his body weight. I did this up until he refused his handfeedings, where he took 5-10 ccs, then he eventually weaned.

It WILL get better, just hang in there and listen to his squawks as guidance, not a problem!

You are seen as the leader of his flock. He wants to be accepted by YOU, not by your boyfriend so he does nothing. Screaming is the only way he knows to get your attention, so try rewarding whenever he does something you like to get attention.

Also bare in mind he is the equivalent of a 2-Year old in a new home. You would be scared and startled by monsters as well! Be patient, it could take months. Then you have a relationship to last you both for the rest of your lives (probably after yours).

As far as hand feeding goes, he's now almost totally refusing to handfeed, attacking the syringe. We offer him tons of food and he's eats most of them. So if it were diet related... I wouldn't know how. Plus this scream is louder than the "I'm hungry" scream. Thanks to all for your input and any more is also appreciated.

omg a scream louder than the hungry scream?? There is one?! ..

Sometimes when I move out of his line of sight, I get a pretty good scream. Still would not compare it to hungry baby ones :p
