He is on his play pen.
I notice just under his beak, his feathers seems bald about the size of a penny. Which im having problem take pics for that to show you guys. Is this normal or isbhe moulting.

To me, it doesn't seem like something you should really worry about. Parrots don't usually have a lot of feathers underneath their beak for...i'm not sure actually lol....
If anything, the feathers are still developing since he's still an (adorable) baby.

I dont know leh.. but his feathers under his wings yet to fully develope. Still can see alot of grey baby feathers. I feel for beak wise is homones.
Bro did you supplment yours with probiotics? Try it, you wont regret. He eats like no tomorrow, follow by his digestion seems good according to his poop.
Go and research abt prebiotics and probiotics mean for birds.

That's a nice looking baby. :)

I've also never seen such a young one with a beak that color. Is it possible he's a bit older than 3 months?

Do you know what sub species he is? (Solomon Island perhaps?) Those are some of the smaller Eclectus.

All parrots have a small patch right under the beak that is very sparsely feathered, or not feathered at all - so no worries there. :)

Why are you giving him probiotics?

Eclectus generally do not do well on too many pellets, but vitamins can cause problems, especially when given daily. If an Eclectus is provided with a large variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, then there really is no need to ever give them any vitamins. It can lead to toe tapping and wing flipping.

He's so beautiful! I love how he seems to be posing for the shot with that inquisitive head tilt in some of the pics! The only ekkies I've seen with so much yellow at such a young age are Liana's (Kinny). And if I recall correctly, she was also offering supplements of some sort.

A word of caution. Unless you are receiving expert advice on the dosages you should be giving your eclectus, supplements can be a risky proposition. An amount that would be good for another kind of parrot of similar size would likely be an overdose for an ekkie. This is due to the extended length of their GI tracts, which allows them to extract far more by way of nutrition from their food than other parrots. So since they are already taking in an elevated level of nutrition, supplements that have been designed without this longer GI tract in mind can have deleterious affects... such as the toe-tapping and wing flipping Wendy mentioned earlier.

And keep in mind, an overdose won't necessarily present itself in the condition of your ekkies plumage. Some with pristine feathering have suddenly shown the familiar symptoms of toe tapping and wing flipping.

So I personally shy away from supplements, and will continue to do so unless specifically directed otherwise by an avian vet who knows ekkies. Not too many avian vets are skillful with ekkies, unfortunately.

And if using pellets, which I no longer do, I'd keep the numbers VERY small. Maybe 10 in a day, five with breakfast and five with dinner. But I believe that, as long as your ekkie is receiving a varied diet of fruits, veggies, grains and legumes, the pellets wouldn't be necessary, either.

Xiaohe~~~I think the brand spore do not carry and its a german brand. I think you should go Serangoon North and ask. Be very carful of extra vitamins. As u mention in your post abt his diet. Pellets , fruits and vegs contains Vit. So i feel extra supplments is not ness.

Wendy~~~ hes nearly abt 4 mths old. For his breed wise im not sure. Infact breed to me is not really matters i just want him to healthy and happy.the reason why im giving him Probiotics weeky one abt there as, if you have read the Thread that i posted title"" Enough Formula"" Hes not eating much and sometime vomit after meals. So i come to know that Eclectus digestion are not that good compare to others.
So maybe thats the reason why hes throwing out. And to my amaze, after feeding him Probiotics mix in his food. He doent really interested in formula and eating solid mashed food with no throwing out. Hopefully the bald area is like that as compare to my quaker and conure. The size of baldness is abt two thumps join together.

Anansi~~~ no worries:) hes having once a week probiotics. The dosage recommended, i dose him much more lesser and its specially for birds. Can really see huge differents after consume probiotics. Hes eating like no tomorrow. And his stool are nice and solid
. Yes very little pellets for him more on fruits and vegs.

Yep! Lesson for all Eckie owners or perspective Eckie owners:

DO NOT SUPPLEMENT ECKIES DIETS WITH VITAMINS, THEY ARE DIET SENSITIVE, AND THEIR SYSTEMS CAN'T HANDLE OVER SUPPLEMENTATION!!! You'll trigger the toe tap stuff by doing that every time. It's a HUGE NO-NO WITH THESE GUYS!!!

Second, his feathers look great to me. So, I would not worry about it. He does not appear to be plucking to me.

They do best on a fresh diet, so I would feed mash, and not worry about the vitamins... you don't need that, and it does more harm than good!
