I am SO excited to share that for the first time since last year, I got Jasper fully in his harness! And walked around my apartment with him!!!

Last year just as I got him in it for the first time he started a bad molt so I decided to give him a rest. Unfortunately that meant starting from square one when I was ready to put it on him again many many many months later. (I've learned my lesson!)

After several months of training, success...again! :D

Yeah, Jasper!!

I bought a harness yesterday when picking Dexter up from boarding. I can't wait to get him started on the harness training, but he has not yet forgiven me for leaving him for a week and is acting all possessed and evil. In the interest of keeping my fingers intact, the harness will wait a few weeks.

If you have any special tips or tricks you have learned that may not be in the video - please share!!

Haha! Yes! Best to win him over again first :D

Actually there's one thing I did differently this time than last. Firstly, a little while ago I started tickling him under his wings. I'll say "tickle tickle!" and he lifts his wing up as high as he can. He LOVES it. (He also says it now too hehe)

Anyway he had NO problem putting his head through the loop for me. That he didn't forget, and zero issue. But getting the first loop around one wing? Forget it. We were at a standstill for ages.

Then I got the idea to tickle him so while I did that I could slip the loop under quickly. Worked like a charm and that's how I've been doing it the past couple of weeks! Maybe I should do another video, I also have him up on a perch this time instead of standing on the dresser.

Bravo to both of you! I have been working with Salty for months, every night and we just can't get past the head loop. That he does fine, and taking it off he also does great. It's the wings that have me stumped. I am going to try your technique, and see what happens. Jasper is going to love going outside and mingling.

YAY! Enjoy your outside time together!! Liesl doent really like hers, but I can get her in it. Im going to wait until Mr Grouchy horny boy is a bit more receptive to my touching him (he can touch me, i cant touch him) before I try and start training him. Once again, kudos to my breeder for training Liesl for me.

Well done I gave up on the harness altogether with Mr Biggles after he scared me and got himself tangled up in it...he gets carried out instead in a carry crate...wonderful how you got Jasper to accept it...hope you and Jasper enjoy the Great Outdoors together and have lots of fun now that he can go anywhere with you wearing his harness :)

Keep it up Katie! Doing phenomenal with him, he's so lucky to have you :)

Precisely where I am. I've got him getting his head through on command like a champ. But don't you dare move a muscle of the head is in the loop or he will nail you good. Frustrating!

Chris what I've been doing to desensitize him about having his wings touched is when we have our rough play sessions (crazy, on his back pretend Amazon fighting) I make it a point to rub and tickle and extend his wings as a part of the playing. Salty never bites hard during these play times though he does "mouth with exuberance" and it's the only time I can touch his wings. I keep trying.

Congratulations with Jasper, Katie!!! Have you since tried taking him outside?

And I am definitely adding my vote for a new Jasper harness video!

Oh, and Jasper's looking really good, btw!

Thank you!!! No, not yet. The next day when I went to put him in it again he panicked and got all tangled :( Going to be a slow process.

And I just had a week's holiday (my parents were taking care of their "Grand Bird") so we'll have to start it up slow again! But I'm confident we'll keep getting better!
