Hey bird lovers, reading all the post about wing flipping I decided to take Oliver for a physical. It will be 4 weeks on Tuesday that he has entered our lives. He was wing flipping and my vet ran all works blood test. Oliver is low n calcium.
Now is that the reason for wing flipping? Who knows. I do know she gave him a shot of calcium and some calcium to put on his fresh food daily and I got to tell you there's been a noticeable change. Every thing else they ran for the blood test is normal. I adopted a healthy bird!

Oliver is missing his long front toe on his left side and his long back toe on his right side, was he born with this, we may never know. As far as how old he is, she said he is mature. So my question to you all is what age is mature for him?

I love reading these forums, best of luck to all!

Welcome!
Good for you, for consulting a vet, and also for reaching out.
I know wing-flipping is a complex matter. There are plenty of people here who can advise you.
Meanwhile, the SEARCH tab above is very helpful in finding good reading.
I'm glad you found us. :)

I'm so glad the calcium has helped with Oliver's tapping! Narrowing down causes can be frustratingly difficult in some cases, so it's great you seem to have found the culprit already.

As for his maturity, eclectus parrots can reach sexual maturity as early as 3 years old. Most do somewhere between 3 and 5. For the most part, healthy ekkies gain their adult beak coloration by around 1 year old... give or take a few months. (This is likely the maturity indicator used in the description of your ekkie, as it is one of the earliest signs that your bird has left the "baby stage" behind.) Mature eye coloration, if I remember correctly, is in place by around 2 or 3 years.
