Getting my birds healthy again?

So after being away for just over a week, my birds are in poor shape due to the person I thought I could trust, neglecting them and not following my instructions. With three of the parakeets dead from neglect (posted in the berevement section) my fourth not looking so good, my conures not eating and my amazon with some plucked feathers, what should I do for them?

I'm ordering some Harrison's mash and I'll be going to the store tomorrow. I don't have much fresh here since I just got home. They're already getting vitamins (Prime) but is there anything else I should pick up or do just in case?

Are you taking action against the person who did this?You could give them some egg food now, and maybe put the budgie in a hospital cage for a little while so he can regain his strength. I would also pay special attention to your amazon's plucking and nip it in the bud. A call to your vet for advice could also be beneficial. Good luck!

She was a good friend, and I was supposed to rent from her starting in April! I'm glad I never gave notice. I don't know if it's worth suing for, and at least she did pay for the necropsy (and I had her take them as soon as she told me they had passed.) The only evidence I have is her account with the vet, and her being the one that dropped them off. I should have set up the webcam like I was going to.

My vet did tell me to keep a good eye on the others, and he is available if I need to bring them in. I'm probably worried the most about Ghost, my last parakeet. I haven't had him for terribly long and he's a bit older, undetermined age but it was dropped off at work and I took him home.

Trying to think logically and not get my emotions too involved and become irrational over this.

Another thing you could do is give them Karo corn syrup it is high in sugar And I'll boost some levels to get more activity out of them. It is usually used when a bird has lost a lot of blood but it can be used In this situation to give them some energy.

Give them plenty of love and especially that zon that is plucking love him all over and give him some new toys or all of them really.

If they have something that is a favorite food I would suggest to give it to them in excess to get them eating again. If this means feeding them some junk food then do it... Better for them to gain grams then to fall over dead.


There is also a supplement you can add in the water called rescue remedy I believe it can work in this situation, it's used when a neglected animals need a boost it has electrolytes and so on in it. You could also mix Gatorade in the water to give them sme extra. Not a lot just some drops to add some extra nutrients instead of just plan water.

Buttercup my Sun conure is the hardest to get to eat new foods so I'm offering her some seed mix over her pellets. Berry my green cheek is usually a pretty good eater to anything I give her, so I'm not worried. Sydney seems to be doing better since I've been back, I see him eating and he was very lovey when I got home last night.

How do you guys feel about supplements like these?

I might call your vet in the morning & discuss with him what you have done & are doing to bring your birds back & ask him if he's got any suggestions.....he's already offered to help - take advantage of it.....

I would talk to a vet before using any supplements. Just to be completely safe as they may not need such powerful additives.

They all seem to be doing much better now that they're home. All eating normally and active, so I'm glad for that. The last parakeet still concerns me a little, because I don't think he's ever ate enough. Going to mash up some pellets and make some seed cakes for him, and finish cleaning out the other cage that had my three in it so he can have the big cage to himself.

I'm so sorry that happened I agree, talk to your vet about supplements as it is very easy to over dose a bird

How about some egg biscuits? Like the ones for mama birds?
