Interesting how it connected nutrients with the development of stress bars, it's so blaringly obvious but I had always assumed they were caused by stress to the bird itself. Rosie recently molted a feather with a big stress bar on it, I remember exactly when this feather developed bcause the bar worried me. The store I was buying totally organize from wasn't getting their order(I was not ordering things online yet) and it came in two weeks late. I ran out of food a week before it finally came. So I went out and bought Lafeaber pellets since Rosie use to eat them. She likes Lafeaber's and ate them really well, but that week this feather grew in with that massive stress bar and I connected the cause to her suddenly eating a inadequate pellet.

I thought the same thing, that stress bars were due to stress, not so.
I'm sure birds don't eat the same either when they are under stress, which may also contribute to stress bars.
