went out to eat with my fiance. came home and it was 62f in the house! my furnace quit for some reason. my baby 10wk. old parrotlet was in a ball in the corner of her cage. i thought she was dead! i picked her up and she was cold and stiff! her feet were clenched. i saw 1 eye open so i immediately. put her in my shirt and held her against my skin. for 40 min. she didn't move on her own but when i moved her, her eyes would open then close. 45 min. later she popped out of my shirt and started chipping. i put her in her cage. she went and ate and drank. now she's sleeping . i placed a small space heater on low so the heats not directly hitting her but still warming her. i can't get ahold of the vet on the emergency number. she's the only vet within 200mi. from here. any advice on what else to do? my cockatiels are fine but from what i read they can take freezing temps. and they're not babies like lil' sweetie. she's still sleeping. i check her every 5 min. what else can i do?

its half a hour later. still no return call from my vet! lil' sweeties eating/drinking and climbing around like nothing happened! I'm still worried that she might catch pneumonia or something. for now ill continue to monitor and hopefully the vet will call soon!

Damn... not a great situation. Hope you can get the heat on soon. I'm still resisting the urge to turn the heat on here, but I'm quite a ways south of you!

Hope the heater is an easy fix like a zone control or something like that! Good luck!

45* here now, low of 26* tonight, but I have a big old house, so it stays pretty warm. I'll probably turn the heat on soon tho!

What kind of stove do you have? If it's gas, if the heat goes out again, consider filling a hot water bottle with water heated on the stove, and then wrap it in a towel to radiate some heat. I say gas because it'll work even if the power goes out, which is one reason why I hate having an electric stove now!

Give your baby something to cuddle up to so she can help keep herself warm in case anything happens again, but I'm glad to know she's okay.

Same here, going into low 60's tonight! .......really though I am really glad you have your situation under control!

And, yes, I still have my air conditioning running! :)

snowing now up here. a balmy 35 f! i set up a small space heater w/ a thermostat for her. it goes on below 68f. have it pointed at a corner of her cage so its not hitting directly. just ordered a snuggle up bird warmer for inside her cage. that too is on a thermostat. seems that parrotlets, unlike their larger relatives, don't tolerate the cold as well. that and she's only 10 weeks and tiny makes her real sensitive to cold. I'm just glad i didn't come home to find her dead. it won't happen again.
