Hey everyone,

which brand of vitamins that are added to the water do you think is the best? When I got my lovebirds their previous owners used Padovan's MultiVitaminico drops.
The smell of those drops is pretty strong so I am not sure my young lovebirds and the budgie would even go near their water dishes with that in it.

I didn't get the original packaging when I adopted the older lovies, only the bottle and I did google it to find the ingredients: Multivitaminico. Padovan , but I don't know if that's even okay.

Anyone with experience? Do my birds even need vitamins in their water? I always keep getting told that they do...

Thanks!

I would seek recommendation from a certified avian vet prior to introducing supplemental vitamins. Depending on your lovebird's diet, they may or may not be necessary. Another issue with water mixing is the dosage will be highly variable depending on consumption and the needs of individuals.

Great intentions, and may be helpful, but don't want too much of a good thing! (well, except for money?!)

I looked into this myself and best I could tell was a lot of will get excreted anyway, there are ecotrition products like this, and this, that are still used for parakeets which won't migrate from a seed diet kept at a workspace. I think larger birds, if they've got a healthy mix should be fine, ours munch Zupreem, Goldenfeast, and Kaytee, plus occasional fresh fruits. Between those things, maybe we could add veggies at some point but they're probably covered.
