They have pulled up the road outside my house and are re-taring it right now. The smell is quite strong and has filled my home! Do you think this will effect Audrey in any way? :S
Is the smell of road tar dangerous to birds?

I don't think any smell like that is particularly good. Or more to the point, the volatile compounds that go with the smell. When stuff like that happens, I do my best to seal up the house keep the air ciculating. Going through a bit of it right now, with some work being done in the backyard and the grading machine needs some serious work on it's gasoline engine, belching smoke.
Fortunately outdoor stuff gets diluted and diffused pretty quickly. I've worried a lot a large number of times and never had anything adverse actually happen.

I didn't think it was good! I have had the house sealed off, but they are back here again today. Thankfully Audrey is okay, I hope it stays that way!

I've not had any problems with my Greys; I'm sure there are plenty of noxious compounds, but if you keep things aired out you should be OK. You might try an air filter with a charcoal based filter medium. Activated Charcoal is one of the best filter materials...I sometimes use it with my air conditioning unit. You can get these filters at major home improvement stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.) They are great for removing pet odors (I should know with 12 Dachshunds, 2 African Greys and a marine aquarium.)
