ok so as most of you know i have added 2more beautiful alex's to my family taking my flock to 3.

im looking for some advice on bonding with them.

i understand the concept of bonding with a bird and have a beautiful bond with my baby oxy.

this is where my issue begins. oxy is used to having 100% of my attention, and loves spending time with me and my partner. prince is beautiful and very social and loves cuddles and bonding with us really well so no problem there but bruno on the other hand is a bit stand offish.

he will step up every time and doesnt bite, but is not very social. oxy and prince love spending time with us where as when ever i bring bruno over he will either fly to where the other birds are or to theotherside of the room and sit staring put the window.

prince and bruno belonged to 2 teenage girls, prince to a 13yr old and bruno to a 17yr old. i remember when i was 17, it was all about socialising with friends as much as possible between school and work and i think this may be where the problem lies. i dont think he had as much human socialisation.

i would love to change this, buthow can i give bruno some 1 on 1 time with out the others, espec oxy getting jealous?

sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You simply take them to another room, where the others cannot see or hear you.....

Yes, I agree completely with Weco. That's how I tamed one of the two lovebirds I got from my neighbor - neither was tame and I had to work with them one on one. I was just in an apartment, so it wasn't sound proof and the other one kept calling to the one I had in the other room. If you can go somewhere where they can't even hear each other, that would be great.

Weco and LoryLover is right, taking Bruno into anther room to tame him, it would really help. Also, try sharing your meal with your alexes (bird safe foods, of cause). In the wild, parrots share their meal with their mate, and since Oxy and Prince is not scared of you, Bruno will likely to come down too, since parrots are very good at coping other parrots.

Good luck :)

so i tried separating bruno today for some 1 on 1 time and within 2min he starting fretting and looking for prince. i tried to give him a treat but wasnt interested in it. i returned him to the others. he is not scared of me, just doesnt want tosit with us.
they all have dinner with us when im having a bird safe meal.
i will just keep persisting, it could be a hormonal thing as he is around that age, or he could just be that kind of bird..... only had him a week so he could still be a little unsettled. only time will tell, but i wont give up or love him anyless

I think the one on one time should be more than just sitting with him. Pet him, talk to him, play with a toy with him. The one on one session needn't be long, even 10 minute sessions will make a big difference in your relationship with him. Since you've only had him for a week, this is a great time to start the bonding process with him. Each session you have with him alone will get better.

Do your 1-on-1 with Bruno in the mornings, before breakfast, when treats will be enjoyed more.....giving up after a few minutes is not going to solve the problem.....
