I looked for a thread like this but didn't find one. Many of us got our birds from pet stores or other owners, and wonder about their life before coming to us, where they hatched, etc. A leg band can tell us some of that, but usually only the state and the year, and sometimes breeders don't even include that info. If they do, the state us usually an abreviation, such as a bird hatched in Georgia will say something like GA 99 if it was hatched in 1999. Often the state and year will be turned on their side so as to separate them from the breeder code and bird number.

Anyway, if we post our birds leg band numbers here, we may be able to compare stories, locations, etc, and find out more about our birds. Here is what I know:

A bird banded with the word ALOHA may have originated from here in Hawaii with a breeder named Craig Fry, who supplies most of the conures to the pet stores here on O'ahu and is well known here.

A bird banded with the code DAMB may also have originated with a breeder here who I am friends with, and would love to hear from you if you have one of her birds. She specializes in Indian Ringnecks and other Asiatic Parakeets. She will not be in Hawaii forever, though.

A bird Banded with the code CLEV or CLEVB comes from me! The CLEVB will be an open band meaning that the bird was not hatched in my home but came to me later. This will be an open band which my birds require to be flown in and out of Hawaii where I am now located.

Anyone else? can you share the breeder code and anything you know about them (anything that is ok to share on the internet that is!)?

Sassy - 13 y.o. Blue Front Amazon, Cisco - 6 y.o. Sun Conure, Peanut - 8 y.o. U2
Fred - 2(?) y.o. Cockatiel, Ginger - 3 or 4(?) y.o. Cockatiel
My BFA has a closed leg band that says "HARTMAN 468" on it. I did a little research and found Hartman Aviary in Sunbury, Ohio and contacted them to see if it was one of their bands, and if her age of 12 years (which is what I was told when I got her) would be accurate. They got back to me and said that she would indeed have originated from them and the age would be accurate. I plan on going and visiting the aviary, as they are open on Saturdays in the summer for visitors/tours.
