Here is another article about it as well:
More than 60 exotic birds dead in animal abuse case | WSBT

This was a horrible thing, and I felt so sorry for those poor birds. In the article I linked, it said she only knew the caretaker as "Shaun"...she didn't even have his last name? I truly hope they can find him and give him the punishment he so richly deserves.
I can't imagine the agony those birds felt.

Found one more article that said she found unopened bags of food she’d bought for the birds. The food and water were already there, and he let them die in their cages. I hope they catch him, but I wonder how severe a punishment he would get? Not enough..

We will likely not know the outcome. But, I'm guessing that there is going to be more to this story.

The money is one of the reasons for my belief! Since nothing was said about 'food' it is likely that the 'weekly' money also included buying food. Point: If the food was provide by a purchase /supply agreement. That group would have provided feedback that no one was picking-up the supplies. Or, in the report, the food would have been noted as found sitting unused.

Still, very sad and the suffering was beyond believe!

FYI: Sorry K, I had not seen your Post regarding the food!

He wasn't charged with a crime yet.
It's not fair, if it were dead dogs or cats then the public outcry would have pressured the DA to an arrest but oh it's just birds so no one takes the parrots suffering as serious.
I also blame the owner, she should have checked on them or had a friend or family member check.
People have to be more cautious and responsible with their pets well being, it's just the right and ethical thing to do.

This is awful. I have so many questions. Who leaves their birds with “Shaun”? Who doesn’t ask for pics/videos/FaceTime when they’re away that long? And maybe I’m crazy but 72 birds seems like a lot.

I've been trying to grasp this since reading it last night. Those poor birds. Judging from the story, it appears they had a naive owner. "Shaun"... I'll bite my tongue.

I am glad how strict the laws have been for neglect and abuse cases for mammals (ie: horses, cats, dogs). I hope the trend continues towards the same rights for birds, reptiles, ect.
