Hi so my friend bought some budgies and he went and got some perches for them. He put his hand in with the perch and one of the budgies flew around frantically hitting the toys and other perches. Hes never seen it fly so fast. Anyway after this it was sitting there breating with its mouth open for a little while about 20 seconds or so. Then he was fine afterwards and has been since he has got them can extreme stress cause them to breath with thirr mouth open.

Yes they would be afraid, I think it makes them think a snake when they see a stick move....

Even my Quaker’s can freak out when I’m holding something long and thin and snake like, or just moving stuff in their cage.

Open mouth breathing with extreme freight is normal.

Sunny the Sun Conure (sept '18, gotcha 3/'19). Mr Jefferson Budgie & Mrs Calliope Budgie (albino) (nov'18 & jan'19). Summer 2021 Baby Budgies: Riker (Green); Patchouli, Keye, & Tiny (blue greywings).
My High-Strung Jefferson Budgie does this. Not as often as originally, as I have been able to eliminate some of the triggers, but it still happens occasionally. One notable time recently was a thunderstorm, at night but their cage was open... Jefferson managed to give himself a reverse-mohawk-haircut on the textured-ceiling-paint...

He also said it made this strange clicking sound when it was afraid is that normal or not. Only when he is afraid otherwise it's never a problem.
