I have been off work a couple of weeks due to hurting my wrist, so Damien has been out of his cage all day, the time i have been at home.

I am due to be going back to work, and I have realised I have spoiled him with all this out time, so I am going to try get him back to his old routine, where he is only out for a little bit on certain days as if I was back at work.

So I am ignoring him this morning, and he is doing this very very annoying thing where he is chewing on his cage as if he is saying "LET ME OUT" I can't give in to him it will ruin him getting back into some routine; so ignoring him is the right thing to do? I think I may try some distraction techniques, get some food in there ahah!

lol I feel really bad, it was my fault for for breaking the routine, do your birdies do this chewing the cage bars thing to when they want out of their cage?

In fairness at least this is a quiet form of protest, he could be screaming the place down if he so wished. So I will count my blessings haha!

I would give him all the time I have while you are off, I may be wrong but once the house is quiet and you aren't there he will understand it won't happen until you get home.
I know my birds are quiet until I walk in the door. They are very intelligent and seem to know when it is useless . LOL
Now once you get home he will probably expect your attention.

Ours is the same. The second he hears footsteps in the bedroom, or the backdoor open - it's chatter time. A personal game of mine is seeing how far I can get before he realises I'm around.

I kind of agree. Sugar is quiet when we're not home, or until she hears one of us get up in the morning (then it's game on!). It's only when she knows we're around and she wants out (she isn't out all day despite my being home all day most days) that she's loud. I'd let him out and enjoy the time you have with him. He'll pick back up on the routine again quickly, I'm sure.

Give him all the love and attention while you can, they adapt so quickly.
When you have returned to work, you will think back and say I AM SO GLAD I SPOILT HIM, giving his so much love and attention.
It may take a few days for you both to get back into routine.
