Having you around while they try to earn his trust might be helpful as he'll be more comfortable with you around, and seeing you interact with them also could help him see that they aren't as scary as they probably seem, but it also might not be helpful as there's a chance he'll just choose to hang out with you instead of giving them a chance if that is an option. Test out what works best for you all, and teach your family how they should interact with him and earn his trust if they don't already know!
