The croaking and chirping noises, he does them a lot now. We adopted him after he was sold by a pet shop to someone who found him too difficult to look after so we're not sure his exact age but according to the pet shop he's about either 16 months or 21 months old (depending on which of two clutches he was from, they're not sure). Are these baby noises to a parent, or adult noises to a partner, or just general attention-seeking/charminng sounds? Just curious, and wondering if he sees me as a parent figure or a romantic figure because I can't tell.

Thanks!

Looks and sounds like a very happy Parrot making happy Parrot sounds and attempting to pick-up the Human Language. It will help if you work at attempting to tie specific sounds to specific activities, sightings, objects, etc... Also, continue to work at teaching language.

Enjoy!

Yes, Mr. Boats!

My loose translation...
"I love you, what's up, I feel good, I like treats, your hair is fun, are we havin' treats later, why did you pluck all your feathers, i love you, i feel good..."
PRECIOUSSSSS!

How sweet!

He makes the "happy sounds" when we're having moments like that, and when he looks at me through the bars of his cage, when he gives a small double nod of the head along with them. It's different to the nodding he does when he sees food or interesting items that he wants and can't get to, or when Biddy's cage is in the same room (he is never going to be allowed to reach her though, after he made his quite murderous intentions clear yesterday when he landed on her cage and began striking at her innocently unalarmed little head - terrifying!). That nodding is vigorous and not accompanied by the same sounds. That's why I speculate that the sounds are meant to get my attention, but for affection rather than resources. Maybe they're not always purposeful but are spontaneously self-expressive, as you seem to suggest.

He can speak more clearly than he does in the video. I've been trying to systematically teach him his name, my name and the names of pertinent objects and activities in his life, but he hasn't repeated those things so far. I think he probably knows what they mean as he shows signs of understanding what I say, but so far he only seems motivated to repeat social phrases and non-verbal human vocalisations e.g. quizzical or surprised sounds. Those are very cute too, haha.
