Found Parrot

This Parrot landed on my neighbors shoulder this morning. He gave it to me because I have chickens and ducks. Put parrot in a cage by itself for quarantine reasons. Bird does not bite and seems to be tame. It is eating and drinking. When I sit next to cage the bird will bob its head and flap its wings. Eyes are clear and bright. I just joined this forum to find out more about it (not sure if it is a male or female). Thanks. Not sure if this is the correct forum or not but please let me know.

That is a quaker parrot. They are an invasive species in many places (i.e. living wild where they shouldn't be), but also very common as pets. Given the human friendly nature of this bird, I would assume he or she is a lost pet and not get too attached.

So what have you done so far to attempt to locate the owner? 911 parrot alert is a network helping to reunite beloved pets with their rightful owners (link below) and sees such as craigslist are also good places to check if anyone is missing their feathered friend. Companion parrots are greatly missed by their owners when they escape and every reasonable attempt should be made to find his family before deciding to keep him.

Def a quaker parrot. Please call the local vets and pet shops, since those are places a parent of a lost pet would call, to see if their bird has turned up. Trust me, the owner is probably frantic and very upset at loosing their birdy. Good on you for taking him in.

Welcome to the forums, thanks for joining and taking care of this beautiful and likely beloved companion. Chances are somebody is worried sick and hoping he is safe. Can you tell us generally where you live - not asking for specifics due to privacy concerns!

The behavior you described could be baby begging behavior. I'm not familiar with this species because they are banned as pets in my state. If it is an unweaned baby, it will need special formula fed at the right temperature with whatever its preferred instrument is. It could be a weaned baby who is simply frantic for food. Or not a baby at all. I don't know.

I hope he finds his people. If he's that tame, someone is looking for him.
