Ok, I have a female lovebird, her name is Twilight she is about 2 years old and I have only had her for about 3 months. Her previous owner hand raised her from a chick but neglected her after the first year, so it has taken a little bit of work to re-socialize her and she is doing great though some strange behavior has popped up! Over the last few days she has been very moody. From biting me to not wanting to leave her cage, to obsessively nibbling paper. But that's not the weird thing. Periodically she will jump up to her swing and spin in circles, flare her wings out, stick her tail in the air and fart.... yes FART!!! at first I thought she was hissing, but it wasn't. Is this some strange plea for a mate? or do I just have a weird bird with PMS? Any imput would be very helpful, I am new to having a love bird and want to take good care of her. She and I have become good friends :rainbow1:

Yeah that's kind of the mating thing.

You could get her a mate, but there's no guarantee that she'll accept a male lovebird. In fact, if you were to get a young male, she could possibly hurt him because he would be too young to understand what to do.

Likewise, if you did get a mate for her and they got along, you could lose what friendship you've built up with her.

You can try to find ways to reduce her hormone levels by not feeding her any soft foods, no inappropriate petting, no nesting material and nothing that could be taken as a nest. May need to change the amount of hours she sleeps, too.
