Hi, we have just bought a baby lovebird. It’s really lovely. Happy to sit on hands etc. He or she is 5 weeks old .

Thank you so much. So far we are thinking of Mango or Sunnis. It’s very tame and will happy sit on our fingers etc. I hope it stays so tame.

Lovely names, indeed.
Is this your first bird? If so, please read 'A Warm Welcome And A Few Friendly Warnings To Keep Your Parrots Safe'. I sent you the link in my welcome PM.

Also there is a honeymoon period, so be aware that she may get a little testy as time goes on.

Thank you. This is my first lovebird. We had a Parrotlet that we bought as a young bird that had been had raised. Even so he was super aggressive and not at all friendly but very sadly he does just a few weeks after getting him.

Thank you everyone. Should I just leave her alone to settle or do you think I should keep handling her right away?

Keep handling her if she doesn’t seem bothered. It’s the best way to keep her so tame. Be careful how you touch her though. Skritches to the head only, no petting her wings, back, belly, etc. It’s too early to matter now, but those things are seen as sexual behavior and you don’t want to start something you can’t finish. Better to begin with safe habits.

Congratulations on your little sweetie!
