...and don't know what it means. my new BG, while hanging on the inside of his cage bars and facing me, opens his vent area up and points it at me with his tail ever so slightly fanned out and shakes his butt like hes going to shoot poop at me or something. anyone know what that could mean? help please i'm so perplexed about it that it drives me nuts. also he often raises the shoulders of his wings up and out a little bit with the wings close to his body and he does it under so many different circumstances i'm not sure why he's doing it

not sure if he's male, i've only been told so and his name (romeo) is the name the previous owner had for him so who knows lol. he does it very often yes, almost every time he's clinging to the bars. He appears content when he does it (by that i mean he has no negative gestures or sounds going on)

Does he do it a lot, or often? Are you sure he's male? Any other observations?

Sounds like a mating thing to me... I would have him sexed, to make sure he is really a boy. :p

It does sound more like female mating behavior. My Grey does this to me as well, only she backs up to her bars and puts her butt straight up in the air. I've seen Rowdy do it more as you describe though. Female horses do it, too, when they are in heat. They will turn and show you their backside and wiggle their female part.

The second one where the bird is fluttering his wings close to his body is sometimes the bird's way of showing you how symmetrical and pretty he is, and how he would make nice looking babies, and sometimes it's begging for attention behavior.

There's an avian vet that comes to the pet store every few months and will clip Romeos wings and trim his nails for $25 and I can also get the $25 DNA sexing test. So when she comes I'll get it done. Hopefully by then I'll be able to get her (?) into her carrier. The lady at the pet store got her in there with no incident; Romeo was a perfect little angel and went right in

It sounds like a male mating behavior to me. Can you post a pic of him directly from the front of his head and a side shot.

A shot from top of his head would be better where his head size and beak width is more visible.

It seems to me that Romeo is female not male but for $25.00. it would be best to pay for the DNA test. As far as your Macaw opening the shoulders of his wings with wings pressed to their body. This is something both sexes do when they are excited. You should also notice when they do this, their eyes get smaller in size. Best of luck to you and your horney little BG. Thanks for sharing Joe
