So I was going through some pictures of my trip to British Columbia and I found a picture of a pair of Hyacinth macaws, it's not great but I figured I would show you guys. I wanted to get more pictures but there were sooo many people it was hard to stay in one place for an extended period of time.

The pair are from the Vancouver Aquarium

next time I go I will def spend more time with these two lol

I did have a good trip thanks, I took this pic a year ago and just found it.
I couldn't get over that I forgot about it considering my obsession with birds and macaws being my favourite

13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
Beautiful! I've always wondered how do you cage a macaw with that long tail? Or take it to the vet in a travel cage? The macaw I almost went and got, (due to health issues with my dad in So Cal, didn't happen...yet), his full length is, I believe the owner said, 33 inches and his tail was beautiful! He had never been caged. Without being able to have a HUGE cage for this animal, is it normal to have them live on a stand? Is that how most macaw owners do this?

Yes, huge cage and play gym. And it's pretty normal to make a big crate to take them to the vet. You wouldn't be able to sit it on your passenger seat, but rather your back seat, or I suppose if you have an SUV you could put the back seat down.

I hear that macaws rather their perches to be far apart so they don't damage their tails. I'm guessing a very tall and wide cage would be needed.

I doubt it would be very practical to have such a destructive bird living on a stand and never going into a cage. When I saw them though all I thought was can I have them?pretty please?lol

Yes, they definitely need to be watched! Some climb down off their stand easily and yes, they can eat a dishwasher. Ask another member here; hers ate the dishwasher the first day she let him out!

I would never leave one out at night or when I wasn't home. Geez, one electrical cord and the house could be on fire.

I can just imagine loading my Hy (whenever I get one ) into my truck , lol.
I might have to hang a red flag on the back gate if his tail is too long , lolol.
Just kidding of course :)

I can also attest to needing to watch large macaws (and cockatoos) on their stand! Priella :blue: enjoys getting onto the floor and start trouble in the store i help out in. :p

One day if my life permits and I have the funds I will have one of these beauties, but for now pictures and videos will suffice.

I wish I had somewhere around my home town where I could get some large bird experience, the pet store macaws are either too afraid or too aggressive to get close to

They have hyacinths at the Vancouver Aquarium?! This is news to me. I haven't been there in three years, but I don't recall them having birds of any kind. Hmm. Might have to go for another visit.

Yes, I like my furniture and antique woodwork and my dishwasher, too! My birds might be able to redesign things, but they can't eat a couch in one sitting:)

Of course you should never leave any bird unsupervised, but macaws can cause very expensive damage very quickly.

Yup, it is in Stanley Park. Hmm. Maybe its newer, or my memory is slipping (I'm too young for that lol). And Vancouver is a lovely city. I'm not from there myself, as much as I love the coast I can't afford to live there.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to go help out in a long time. And starting mid April I wont be able to till after May because I am student teaching:(. The latest news I have is building a fun relationship with a the nicest moluccan cockatoo, Gully. My friend's mom finally broke down and bought him (she is the same woman where I got Roxy). Gully loves walking on the floor and climbing on other parrot cages for fun :p He has never bit anyone ever, which is why I felt confident in getting him out of his cage whenever I wanted to. However he loves standing on your neck, and don't you dare have necklaces or earrings in, they'll be gone soon :p I don't why I bother having my hair in a ponytail, cause apparently Gully believes it shouldn't be there
