Rescuing military macaw

Hi, I am probably rescuing a military macaw who is currently living in a business warehouse. From what I know, is that it is a few years old.... Used to be in the business office but now they told them they had to move it out of the office and now they moved it to the warehouse. They aren't asking money for the bird, but I do hae to pay the shipping company directly to ship it from the other island to me, (not a scam, I'm not sending the owner any money, I will pay for the shipping when I pick up the bird...) I do know he has bitten, though I don't know anything about that situation.

I haven't rehabilitated a macaw before and would love the advice you can give.... Where do I start?

POOR BABY! Being locked in a warehouse! I am so glad you've decided to take him/her.

I would start with a tip to the vet ASAP. God only knows what illnesses, nutritional deficiencies or other health issues this poor bird might be suffering. Since you haven't met the bird yet, he may be so grateful for the better home he bonds instantly or so distrusting of humans you'll have a long road ahead. I'd hope for the best and plan for the worst. Have you worked with rescues before at all (of any species)? Typically, things start with trust building from outside the cage working up to the bird coming out, learning to step up ext..

I haven't worked with "rescues" I have two ringnecks who needed some training because they were in homes who didn't train them, one was a "screamer" but I haven't done anything to this extent, I am really nervous, and hopeful... I am still talking to the owners to convince them to ship him to me..... He will need so much I cant afford to fly to the other island and bring him back ..... theyre sounding like they want to "meet" me first..... its a weird situation.... there is also another family here that is willing to take him, I don't know if I will keep him or if they will take him.... they have experience with rehabilitating macaws, and I feel like theyre a better option, but right now we are just trying to get him out of the warehouse and into one of our homes
