Sarah recently graduated high school, and just quit her job at SeaWorld. (She'll be moving to Brazil soon.)

Since she's home all day, Maggie has become her constant companion and shadow. She says that when she gets up in the mornings (she's a teenager, by that she means, mid-afternoon) Maggie will be sitting on the floor guarding her door, waiting for her to open it. Pretty much spends the day waddling along after her where ever she goes...

Grats on Graduation Sarah. Guard Bird that is funny .

Well, the funniest part, is she came out of the shower wrapped in a towel, went into her room and closed the door. Maggie waddled along about a step behind her, and when the door closed... exact same position...

:D No one in or out until she's dressed! :p

Sounds like Maggie could be an excellent deterrent for any boyfriends who come around:p

Yeah, put the greenwing on her lap, and those hands won't be exploring places they're not supposed to go... ;)

It's funny, though, even Maggie reacts differently to people who show fear... (she generally bluffs and laughs at them, and then makes them jump again.)

Sarah's friends who don't show fear, are instant playmates. The ones that do? She'll do the whole, big bird, big bad bird routine...

and, of course, laugh at them.

SeaWorld, Brazil, sounds like she is getting a world of experiences before her life even kick starts. To say I'm jealous would be an understatement, lol. Maggie is adorable! Gonna miss her buddy too.

There's no doubt with her being around almost 24/7 right now... both the macaws are gonna be missing out on that when she leaves.

Sea World is literally right down the street from us. In fact, Sarah walked to work. It's a better high school job than any of the things I did to make money...

Actually, Sarah was in Young Eagles at age 12. She got to learn to fly airplanes at age 12... and one of her instructors was an original Tuskegee airman, so that was pretty special. (In fact, that's how Tusk got his name. Short for Tuskegee, african bird, smartest bird in the air...) And of course, my grandfather was a bombadier on a flying fortress at the end of the war, so there was that connection as well... (Her flight instructor was once my grandfather's bomber escort!) All the skydiver kids would do young eagles in the mornings, and then we would go to the drop zone and jump out of planes all afternoon. It's a pretty tight sub-culture.

Her mom is Brazillian, and she's been going back every other year or so, since she was one... She's got way more frequent flier miles than I do in the last 15 years! She's got a gig as an English Tutor at a private school in Sao Paulo. She plans on doing that for a year, or so, and then coming back and going to College...

I've warned her NOT to marry some smooth talking Brazillian guy... YOU ARE COMING BACK SOME DAY, RIGHT?! :p

Lol, sounds like you've done a great job. My dad about passed out when I came home with a motorcycle at age 14. She should have a great time, and having some kind of connection there will make life easier. Definitely NO smooth talking Brazilians.. LMFAO!

Nice that she and Maggie have such a close relationship. Is Sarah actually Maggie's person?

NOT A CHANCE... But she isn't so overbonded with me, that she won't go to anyone else, and doesn't enjoy the company of other people... AND THAT'S HOW THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TRAINED in my opinion. Uber-bonded doesn't have to mean OVER bonded. Overbonded = Somebody's gonna get bit!

Today, Sarah read a book with Maggie sitting on her knee... that's how they spent their afternoon. Until I walked in... then Maggie's foot went up. Gee, I wonder what that means... :p

Mark, you have a lovely daughter! It looks like she's headed for a very bright future. Sweet photos, I love the bond Sarah has with the birds.

Well, Sarah has been handling large macaws (including Hyacinths) since she was five years old...

She used to come with me to the rescue and help out. One of the reasons I did it was because I was flat broke, and needed something to entertain us both.

So, she has quite literally grown up with multiple birds, has helped rehab, probably over 100-ish. And can handle just about anything.

That day we went up to the resort, there was a cockatoo that gets overly excited when handled. (And Sarah is a cockatoo queen.)

The bird went straight for her face, and not only was she able to control him without getting bit, she didn't even flinch.

Been there. Done that.

That and my love for flying are two things she definitely got from me...
