saw a posting on CL a couple days ago for a free bird.

having just lost my tiel i was looking but not too serious about getting one as i was in the middle of moving. after seeing the posting and the one pic they had put up i had to try to save this bird.

i dont know the true history of her (ill be doing DNA sexing with a checkup shortly) but apparently someone loved her at some time. she is very friendly but scared. shell say hello and wave at you with her foot. she is very sweet even after only 24 hours with me. very gently will take food from my hand. she was on some cheap seed mix so i just went and bought a few lbs of zupreem pellets to get her switched over. so far she seems to be taking to them well.

she was living in a mobile home with a VERY large family and when the dad walked by she absolutely freaked out. i dont know what or why but something about him did not agree with her.

anyways the first thing im doing is trying to find out any information about her. if she had a family she belongs to and was taken...if this is the case she will be returned if they want her.

its obvious at some point someone loved her and spent a great amount of time with her. i dont know if she was taken, lost, given up, or sold. supposedly the ppl had her for 2 years and she was in this condition when they got her. they said when her feathers would come back she would immediatly start ripping them out and shredding them. hopefully its stress and i can get her back to the happy bird she once was.

Good luck. I hope the good diet and reduced stress will allow her to keep those feathers. From the look of her, she probably hasn't been plucking for long (she can still regrow feathers).

...when you take her to the vet, the vet may well presribe vitamins. If not, you might ask.

Poor baby! I'm glad that someone will be taking care of her! There is nothing sadder than a neglected animal, and I don't doubt that the people she was with did not show her the kind of attention she needs. =[

She will heal in no time with your good care and avain vet care. Rescued animals have a way of showing how greatful that are for a good home.

poor girl! I totally understand why you couldn't leave her behind. she's got such a sweet, pretty face, which serves in contrast to her plucked body! Hopeefully she will thrive in the hands of someone who cares!

Sounds like she's a lucky birdie to have someone like you to find her. With love, attention and a good diet, she'll be a wonderful addition to the family.

Small update.

she finally left her cage and got on a perch I got for her. She also got onto my arm with no complaints and allowed me to walk around the house with her.

She seems to be making good progress mentally and is trusting me now. Hopefully she will start letting her feathers come in.

She is now letting me scratch her head and has discovered the joys of shredding boxes. :)

Her feathers are also coming in on her chest.

I hope you can find out a lot more history about him/her. Does he/she have any form of ID? Anyway, I'm glad he/she can now feel a lot safer in the new home that you are providing for him/her. Are you going to give him/her a name yet?
