My wife and I purchased a scarlet macaw she was a rescue from the Houston area, she has been with us for approximately 3 months.
She steps up, and she sometimes let's us pet her, and some times she snaps at us as to bite. Sometimes while in her cage she is good and then sometimes she screams. Is there videos and or books that can help to teach me to cope with this and how to correct and any other info that would be helpful.

Thanks

With the screaming, always ignore her when this behavior occurs. Give her attention and praise when she is quiet.
Parrots biting is a complex thing, as they do a lot of communication with their beaks. Go to the macaw subforum and read the threads by birdman666. This is a good starting point.

Welcome and be welcomed. Thank you both for adopting. She will be with you bth for a long long time, so it is important to get the biting and screaming addressed before it becomes a pattern. Parrots are very much creatures of habit and patterning. When I get home at night Salty gets a hello treatie, almost the first thing I do ( people come first), and I forget or he thinks I am taking too long, he will scream bloody murder. Its a pattern, you see, and they in general do not like the routine upset. LOL, you could say he has me trained. SO you want to pattern her for good things ( beig quite, not biting hands or people, and break the cycle for the bad things like screaming for attention or nipping either of you.

I couldnt agree more - go to the Macaw sub-forum, and read all the stickies at the top of the page.. all of them, maybe several times, and out loud to your new addition. Then search on all of Birdman666 's posts, the man is our resident Macaw expert. Dont be afraid to ask questions. Be involved with your macaw every day - thats how the bonds are built.
