Awe! Its fun watching those wheels turn. Before you know it he'll be all over that gym like a monkey. Hanging upside down and owning it like a pro.

It's not like he doesn't know there is a rope ladder on the other corner lol he is just trying to take a shortcut...not realizing it will take him longer lol

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
LOL -My bird does everything simple in the most convoluted way possible (she has a ladder on her stand perch that is perfect for her size etc, but she prefers to latch her beak onto tenuous surfaces and try to pull herself up without falling)..alternately, she takes semi-complicated things and makes them look easy.

Glad he is enjoying himself! Good job!

Ive started the gym toys simple. But have been adding new things every few days. He prefers the top level so i have been thinking of things to entice him into using the whole gym. Eventually I will build up just to change it up.

Rotating the the toys often is great. Does he have any favorites yet? How is he getting on with the new home and family?

So far no one particular favorites. He plays with anything and rotates through.

He has adjusted well!!! All the pre-research and sit downs with the entire family before we got the bird helped a LOT. We lowered kids' expectations a lot and basically said the bird does things instinctively. Meaning you cannot get pissed at him if he bites you or ignores you or poops on you lol It lessened the stress by being very blunt.

We also pre-measure out his daily meals and treats for the day. Kids know which container holds his quota of treats and snacks. This way we know he is neither overfes or underfed.

Even though he is rarely alone, we make sure to return hum to his cage thru the day so he doesn't get too spoiled.

We couldn't be happier at his adjustment. Even the cats tolerate him.
