I am Debbie (macaws49) 20 years ago I had homing piegons, country girl. I looked out one morning and a parrot was on ground eating with them. I ran and got my husbands welding glove and headed out. I sneak up and start to grab it. It sees me and jumps on the shoulder. Scared me to death with that beak. We were instantly in love. I watched the paper for a month and no one apprently wanted him back. It was a nanday conure. After about a week I knew why someone didn't claim him, the noise. I have been in love with parrots since. He died after about five years, the vet thought of old age. I have had parrots every since. I have a scarlet I bought at 2 weeks old, now about 12 years. Through the years I have been given many large birds that people grew tired of or that were mean. I would love them back to happy birds and find great homes for them. About 4 or 5 years ago someone brought me a B/G that was self plucking and they said very mean. About the only feathers left were a few on the wings and head. This one became so lovable and it was the only one my scarlet liked so she is now part of my family. I have 2 parakeets and 4 english keets. I want to hand raise an english so bad. Elvis, the scarlet is the boss, sunshine the B/G follows her lead. Sunshine still plucks but not nearly as bad. People don't understand bird lovers. Mine go everywhere with me. There favorite is to go camping. I cut them a small tree and they are in heaven. The one bad thing is they will not let anyone but me touch them. Glad to have found this site.

Welcome to the Parrot Forums. It's a great place here and of course we love lots of pictures. Wow you must have some patience to rescue these birds and find them new homes. Not an easy task to rehabilitate rescues.

It might be helpful, you pick one colour and I'll pick another. Should sort everything out, otherwise all sarcastic comments just go right over my head. :D

Keupi - a Senegal.
I so admire you rescuing fids. If I won the lottery I'd open up a fid sanctuary. Actually, an animal sanctuary. To me, all dogs are puppies, all cats are kitten (I'm allergic, but I'd finance a handler), all fids are babies, and all animals respected.

It always grates me to hear of a 'mean' bird (or a 'mean' animal). There's a reason why it's mean... and sometimes it's not mean - it's natural. For example, most (if not all) parrots are prey animals in the wild. That's a different 'fight or flight' mentality. Take any animal where you don't work with natural instinct - they're not toys.

Sorry, I'm on a soapbox instead of my intention... WELCOME!!
