Loki (Cockatiel) hatched Jan 19th 2012
Hi folks,

I'm from Ireland, I have a 6 month old white-faced lutino cockatiel called Loki and she's enjoying training me immensely! First time pet owner - always wanted one, never in the position to have one until recently - so completly noob, am sure that I will be pestering you with questions all the time!

Thanks folks :)

Hi! :D i always loved the white-faces they look so cool.

She's a little beauty, tempermental but when she's in the mood for head rubs she puts her beaks on my lips and keeps turning her head to let me know where to rub lol She's starting to get her first molt since I bought her, can feel the pin feathers coming up and she's a little cranky from it but I think she's look stunning when it's done. Had I not seen this bird in the pet store (fantastic breeder btw, hand raises all his birds) I'd be inclined to go for a normal grey, I love the face patches. That said, Loki was the one that caught my eye and we bonded straight away. Probably doesn't hurt that I'm 6'7" tall so she probably though "wow, cool perch"!

Happy you joined us. How is the bird business in Dublin? Are parrots popular as pets?

Hi there Spiritbird. Am pretty new to the pet scene and to birds in particular. It's my observation that getting a parrot of varying species is not too difficult but toys and accessories and various other things seem to be in short supply. Even basic things to make toys seems to be difficult in Ireland.

Parrots don't seem to be massively popular as pets and the one that I purchased was returned to the pet store after a short due to allergies. From what I'm told of the previous owner it's more a case of the bird didn't talk after a few days and owner seemed to be bored.

I've currently got a few things on order from the web including a parrot stand, some toys and a book on clicker training. Never would have considered a parrot of any breed before but it seems that we just picked each other in the petshop! Totally love them now, petshop owner also has a Conure which took a shine to me too but suspect girlfriend would move out if I were to get another bird!
