I only have one room in which to accommodate my cats' litter boxes (so that the dogs don't have access to them) and a large cage for my parrot. Does anyone else have litter boxes in the same room w/their bird? I worry about dust/odor hurting the bird. One litter box is contained in a wooden box, use low dust/scent free litter and have an air purifier in the room. Bird does not have access to the litter boxes, so not worried about bacteria, etc.

Although I have never seen a specific warning about parrots in close proximity to car litter, I have seen warnings about the danger of the dust created by cat litter.....then, in Dec. 2012, Avian Diseases Digest published an article about fatal toxoplasmosis in an Amazon.

Apparently this disease is not something we have to worry about everyday, but in your situation I believe I would speak with my vet & get their opinion on this situation before continuing in the current situation and close proximity to cat liter boxes.
