I have a 10 yr old female cockatoo named Bella. I have had her since she was 3 years old and she is my big trouble maker. Does anyone have any idea why after years she has always liked going out of her room and with me in the house and going outside but now she bites me if I try to leave her room. I don't know of any bad experience she's had to make her act like this. Anyone have any ideas?

Hmmm, Sorry I can't be of much help. Are there any new additions, pets, people, in the house? I'm thinking maybe she's jealous? OR... She could be trying to protect you for some reason. Could this be true love?
I'm sure others will have ideas as well. Good luck.

Hello Machaus, and a warm welcome to the forum. What kind of cockatoo is Bella? We would love to see your favorite photos of her. I get the impression you and Bella have had a few adventures in the seven years she's been with you. :)

When did Bella's behavior change? Was it sudden or over a longer period of time? Has your girl ever laid eggs or exhibited nesting behaviors? Has she had a vet check lately? If you are sure she's healthy, I would look at her environment, like MrsKay suggested, sometimes the smallest changes can send an emotional Too into a tailspin. I'm sure whatever the reason is it makes perfect sense to Bella. I hope you can find the answer soon, so your girl gets back to normal.

Thanks for the comments. Bella is an umbrella cockatoo and yes we have had some adventures, sounds like you know cockatoos. Lol she hasn't had any changes but she has had horrible hormones this summer. She is cuddling one day and the next hopping around like a mad bird. My husband says she is just spoiled rotten, which I admit she is. She is very stubborn and some days she's all sweet and the next minute she's calling me a bratt. She has had bloodwork by vet and all is good. I am the only person she will let hold her. Maybe her room is her security place and she doesn't want to leave it.
Thanks for the input
