senegal parrot
i have a question, yesterday i got my senegal parrot from a pet shop but i have no clue if he is hand raised or not but i guess he isn't because he gets really stressed and start heavy breathing when i come next to the cage, is it a problem that he's not hand raised ? and is his behavior normal or should i be worried ?

Welcome to the forums and no, it is not necessarily bad that your bird gets this way, it is normal for birds that do not have much human interaction.

To keep its stress level as low as possible, while it is adjusting to being a companion bird, approach its cage slowly and don't suddenly appear quietly from a doorway or other room.

A lot of birds don't like having their space invaded and get upset with us sticking our hands in their cages, even trying to pet a new bird may upset it, so changing its food & water without trying to touch it is always a good idea and speaking to it in low, calm tones will help it get used to you.

Always let the bird come to you, rather than trying to grab it.....sometimes it may take a few days to several weeks before a bird feels comfortable enough to come close to you, but you are always calm and gentle around it, you should be able to make friends with it quite soon.

Congratulations on getting your new feathered friend.....

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
He's in an unfamiliar place, around unfamiliar people, and his whole world just got turned upside down. So he is scared and stressed.

Sit by the cage. Talk to him. Hand feed him treats. Then let him be for a little while. Let him initiate the interaction with you...

I'm not sure about a senegal, but the conure we got was totally stressed and miserable at the pet shop - that was the reason we got him! He was afraid of everything and everybody, but a week later in our house he was a sweetest baby ever (and he still is). You can probably ask the owner if the bird is hand raised or not.
