Hello! Glad to be a member! I am from North Carolina and I'm a mom of a teenage daughter, two boys (5 & 7), an English Mastiff named Sibil, my 8 year old GCC called Skeet and the newest addition to the flock - a 12 year old Severe Macaw named Zoey. I just brought her home on Sunday! We are getting to know each other and I am sure I will need some advice!

So far she is a good girl. She says "up up" and holds out her wings when she wants "up" and allows you to pick her up from one corner of the cage; but otherwise don't get your fingers near her cage! She immediately wants to get on your shoulder (won't stay on your hand) and sits very well unless you walk or move much. If you walk and she's not into walking she'll "attack" my neck. She hasn't yet broken the skin, but it's a fast "pinch" that seems to say "don't move!!!!" I gotta figure out what to do about that!

This is my first "big bird" so any advice will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome. Congrats on your new bird.
Both my Severes move right to my shoulder as soon as they step up. Since mine are pretty good on the shoulder I let them sit there.

She's fine as long as I'm hanging out and just being really still. But as soon as I start to walk she does the dive bomb neck thing.

i'm so used to my little GCC who is absolutely FEARLESS!

Zoey and I are getting used to each other. I'm sure I will need a bit of moral support!

I find that if I talk to Jingle (tell her what I'm doing) it's all okay as long as I don't go too far. (She likes to be able to see her cage.)
We are still learning. I haven't had her three months and Rocky I just got on Saturday.
