Hi, and welcome. I'm glad you survived your very serious health crisis. How scary! Tell your wife that being happy and having pets improves our quality of life and makes us live longer, richer, more meaningful lives. There have been tons of studies that support that, so a web search should yield tons of evidence to present to your wife.

Pocket parrots used to mean bee bees (Canary-winged parakeet) but those aren't so common. Parrotlets are often called pocket parrots now. Some are gentle and sweet and some are spirited little hellions. I have both in my family. We cuddle the gentle ones and laugh at the spirited one. They're all wonderful in their own way. Good luck on acquiring an avian companion.

Welcome to the forums! I'm glad you joined us and I'm glad we gave you a reason to smile during a dark time in your life.

You could ask your wife/gf/caregiver to consider you're future parrot a therapy companion. MBS, multiple bird syndrome is highly contagious, many of us have the virus, it wouldn't surprise me if your wife catches it too.

I also agree to let the wife/gf/caregiver know that having a bond with a special animal has been proven to be of benefit to one's mental and physical wellbeing.

I'm happy to hear that our forum had provided much laughter when you needed it most. Welcome!

Have faith - this does happen! I have a darling little ringneck and a sweet wee 'tiel, after eventually convincing the husband. Of course, now the husband would rather like an amazon! :O

(Not happening, btw. He also wants a kitten, Miss 7 has her heart set on a lovebird and if a big parrot was to join the madhouse, it would be an african grey :D)

BB parrots, pocket parrots and canary wings are all the same , different names for brotogeris. I had one for 7 years, Max by name. Small, spirited and pretty loud for their size. Not great talkers, mine learned a few words and some whistles ( 1812 overture for example). They are cute and love people, one of the few breeds who seek out human company. Good luck with the wife and hope your recovery continues.
