a friend of mine who can no longer give his parrot the attention he needs is going to give him to me. I know the parrot - he is 7 yrs old and lovely! I have always been in 2 minds about owning a bird. I like the idea of birds being free! Any advice on training a bird to be free but know that its home is with me? Any other advice? I dont want to put a leash or something on it but want it to be able to hang out with me outside etc.... any advice much appreciated!

Hang out with your bird outside? Hummmmm that is a tough one. How much knowledge do you have about keeping a companion bird and meeting all of their complex needs? I suggest as I always do the book Parrots for Dummies. It has lots of good basic parrot education and will be a good reference. It is not as simple as taking a bird someone else did not have time for, especially an Amazon. They are not beginner birds. Yes it is wonderful to see the birds fly free but when they have been hand raised and only had a human to teach them the ways of the world they are not suitable to be free. I do not mean to rain on your parade but am trying to paint a reality picture so you will understand this is a big undertaking. I will include a video below to help you understand what I am trying to communicate. Thanks for joining us and good luck. Thank you for giving this bird another chance.
